Growing with our Children: Transforming Our Primary Playground

At Sunrise Montessori, our outdoor environment has always been an essential extension of the classroom—a space where children explore, create, and grow through hands-on discovery. Friends of Sunrise Montessori is excited to expand and enhance this beloved space with a transformation of the Primary classroom playground that builds on everything that already makes it special.

We’re reimagining the playground not as a replacement, but as a natural evolution—one that deepens our commitment to the Montessori philosophy and meets the developmental needs of our students in even more meaningful ways. This expanded space will include thoughtful additions like a mud kitchen, interactive water elements, a beautifully integrated swing set, sensory pathways, and climbing structures designed specifically for primary-aged children. Each feature will enrich the child’s experience of independence, imagination, and connection to the natural world.

Because of the scale of the site and the care we are taking to do this right, the project requires significant planning, phased construction, demolition and commercial-grade equipment. Thanks to the generosity shown during our Fund-A-Need at the Island Sunrise & Sunsets Gala, we now have the seed funding to begin a comprehensive master plan and Phase 1 of construction.
